Seaford resident Patrick Carey, age 22, will serve six months in jail and spend 10 years on probation for publishing this information, as well as encouraging others to harass those whose pictures he uploaded, the Nassau County District Attorney announced on Tuesday, April 18.
The charges against Carey allege that from September 2019 to just a few hours before his arrest in September 2021, he took images of underage girls and posted them to pornographic websites.
These images were "deepfaked" — a practice of digitally altering an image or video to misrepresent a person doing or saying something they didn’t — to appear as if the victims were engaging in sexual conduct.
Along with the images, Carey posted their personal information, including full names, phone numbers, and addresses.
The DA claims Carey encouraged viewers to harass the victims with threats or send them lurid content.
In total, over a dozen women came forward to report that their images (which were taken when they were in middle and high school) were stolen and placed on a pornographic website, according to authorities.
Some of them had even received notifications that Carey had screenshotted the images off their social media accounts.
Authorities said all of the victims had attended MacArthur High School in Levittown and believed Carey to be the one altering and posting their images.
Carey pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- Promotion of a sexual performance by a child
- Second-degree aggravated harassment as a hate crime
- Second-degree stalking
- Endangering the welfare of a child
In addition to his sentence and probation, the judge ordered eight-year stay-away protection orders for each of the 14 total victims.
